We could use a non-linear approach.

Close to where the cursor is located, each pixel represents 1 second. 10 pixels away each pixel represents 10 seconds. 20 pixels away each pixel represents 100 seconds, thus:

+ 30 seconds ago

+ 10 seconds ago

+ 3 seconds ago

+ 2 seconds ago

+ 1 second ago

+ NOW!

+ 1 second into the future

+ 2 seconds into the future

+ 3 seconds into the future

+ 10 seconds into the future

+ 30 seconds into the future
